Jose Mourinho Dedicates Manchester United’s Shield Win To Louis Van Gaal

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho dedicated the club’s Community Shield win to his predecessor Louis van Gaal and also to the seven players who were left out of the matchday squad.

FA Cup holders United won 2-1 against champions Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday to take the prize in the traditional curtain-raiser for the new season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s late header sealed the win after Jesse Lingard, who also scored the match-winning goal in the FA Cup final, had put them 1-0 ahead.

Mourinho told BT Sport: “I want to dedicate this to eight people; for the seven people who were not selected — Ashley Young, Phil Jones, all of them — and also to Louis van Gaal. He won the FA Cup. Without him, we wouldn’t be here now celebrating.”

News of Van Gaal’s departure as United manager, to be replaced by Mourinho, had been leaked in the aftermath of the Cup final win against Crystal Palace in May.

The former Chelsea manager’s arrival was seen as potentially bad news for United midfielder Juan Mata, who he had frozen out while the pair were both with the London club.

The Spaniard suffered an embarrassing afternoon against Leicester, as he was substituted off in injury time — despite having been brought on less than half an hour earlier.

Mourinho denied that he was unhappy with Mata’s display, saying: “He played very well. He gave me exactly what I needed at that time.”

Explaining the decision to substitute the player, Mourinho explained: “We were winning 1-0, late on, and I had one substitution left. I had to take one player off. I had to take off the smallest one at the end because of the long balls and throw-ins.”

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss, who is looking to implement a different style of play to Van Gaal but has only had limited time with his full squad in preseason, said: “I think it’s an important victory but we have lots of work [to do].

“I would not be ambitious if I said we had a fantastic performance, because it was not a fantastic performance. It was a possible performance for the moment of the season, some of these guys who played today had only one week of training.

“No preseason in China, a very bad pre-season, so I think step by step we are changing, but I think it’s always important to start with a trophy.”

Unicef To Resume Aid In Northern Nigeria Despite Boko Haram Attack

In a turn of events, The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) have pledged to continue to provide assistance to millions of conflict-affected children in northeast Nigeria, despite Thursday’s attack on convoy that left two aid workers with various forms of injuries.

It would be recalled that, unicef temporarily suspended travel to the troubled region, however, the humanitarian organization plans to scale-up its response in Borno State substantially.

UNICEF Nigeria Representative, Jean Gough, in a statement said that the organization resumes “working at full strength in the Borno state capital Maiduguri”.

“We continue to call for increased efforts to reach people in desperate need across the state. We cannot let this heartless attack divert any of us from reaching the more than two million people who are in dire need of immediate humanitarian assistance.”

UNICEF has also called on donors and humanitarian organizations to scale-up the response to the emerging disaster in Borno State, which is the most affected by the conflict with Boko Haram.

“Before the attack, security conditions had been improving in several areas. Jean Gough said, Our teams were finding people living on the brink of disaster.

“The violence has disrupted farming and markets, destroyed food stocks, and damaged or destroyed health and water facilities. We absolutely have to reach more of these communities,” she added.

Rooney Expects More Magic From Ibrahimovic After Goal

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is expecting “many more” moments of magic from Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Swedish striker scored an acrobatic effort in the fourth minute of his debut for the club during a 5-2 win against Galatasaray in Gothenburg.
Rooney, who scored two second-half goals for United to overturn a 2-1 half-time deficit, also said that Ibrahimovic has been getting on with his teammates and brings an “aura” with him.
The England player said: “It was a great goal from him. It was good for the team. He’s a fantastic player, he showed what he is capable of doing, and I am sure there will be many more moments like that from him.”
English audiences are aware of Ibrahimovic’s ability to perform acrobatics, after his stunning goal for Sweden in their 4-2 win against England at Stockholm in November 2012.
Rooney added: “I didn’t play [in the Stockholm game] thankfully. It’s exactly what we need. We have seen him do special things throughout his career and I am sure he will do that for us this season.
“He is a great signing for us, [has] a lot of experience. He’s been a successful player wherever he has been and hopefully he will be for us as well.
“He’s a nice fella, a normal guy. He gets on well with everyone. He is good to have around the dressing room and certainly will be good to have on the pitch with the aura he brings with him.”

Rooney started the game against Galatasaray in the No. 10 role but struggled during the first half. Mourinho has told Rooney that he sees him as a No. 10 this season, the Englishman confirmed.
All four of United’s attacking players were substituted at half-time apart from Rooney — with Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial all being taken off.
The former Everton striker said that it was always part of manager Mourinho’s plan to give him more than 45 minutes, saying: “It’s always tough in your first game back to get back into it.”
He added: “The plan was always to stay on into the second half. The important thing is minutes. Of course you want to win, but the important thing is getting fit for the start of the season so that was the plan.
“The lads who came off at half-time haven’t been back as long as we have so that’s why they came off.”
Marcus Rashford was one of the players who was brought on at half-time and he was impressive again. The 18-year-old won the penalty which Rooney converted to give United a 3-2 lead.
Rooney said: “His movement was great. He causes problems for defenders with his pace. He played really well when he came on. He’ll be a real asset for us this season.”

Picture of an Average Nigerian Sitting Room in the 90s

A social media user has released a photo of his average bachelor standard’s sitting room in the 1990s portraying electronic devices that have been lost to time due to advancement in technology.
In the sitting room, a rechargeable lantern that had a radio as well as cassette player attached to it to serve illuminating and information purposes at the event of power outage.
A VCD cassette player, VCD tapes, Sony sound system, old school television already replaced flat screens and Plasma Televisions.
Interestingly, the young man could be pictured playing the Ending-Man BS-500 AS (Terminator) that comes with original controllers, the gun and 3 cartridges which was the rave of the moment before the advent of Nitendo, Sega, Dreamcast, Playstation and the rest.
A top commenter on social media has this to say:
“Some people will look at this pic and laugh, some will look at it and smile with a nostalgic feel. Well I look at this pic and wonder to myself that this was probably the definition of a “big boy’s parlour” back in the day.

”I Have Nine Years Before Reaching Menopause” – Halima Abubakar

Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, has lashed out at all the Nigerians, doubting Thomases who criticized her the last time she revealed she was looking forward to losing her ‘V!rg!n!ty’ and having kids.

She had been mocked that if she is not getting married, she should go and get kids because menopause is approaching. Halima is firing back saying:

What kind of thing is that? Is it your menopause?  I still have about nine years before I hit menopause all things being equal.
In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Abubakar  was unapologetic about her hugely controversial claim of being ‘a virgin’. Read what she told SS below:

“Why would people become annoyed because I said I am a virgin? Just because I’m in the industry does not mean I am badly behaved. Not everyone is sexually active. You can have a boyfriend and not be sexually active.
The reaction I got shows the mentality of the people. If I say I’m a virgin, I am and if I say I am not, then I am not. They tell me to go get married, should I go after  someone else’s  husband?

“Everybody thinks one should get married from age 18. A lot of marriages are complicated. Marriage will come when it will come, one doesn’t need to force it.

People are getting divorced with pregnancies because they got married under pressure. We should let people be. People are saying if you are not getting married, go and get kids because menopause is approaching. What kind of thing is that? Is it your menopause?  I still have about nine years before I hit menopause all things being equal.

I am not one of those people that will kill themselves because of marriage. I can’t have kids outside marriage.”

Ibrahimovic Wants ‘Interesting’ Pogba Move

The former Sweden international is optimistic about the Red Devils’ future and believes the signing of the midfielder will boost the team further
Zlatan Ibrahimovic hopes Paul Pogba completes his much discussed move to Manchester United, stating the midfielder’s arrival will make the club “even more interesting”.

Goal understands Manchester United are set to seal a €110 million deal for the midfielder, with the ongoing transfer saga expected to come to an end in the near future.

Despite the lack of Champions League football awaiting Jose Mourinho’s men in 2016-17, Ibrahimovic is impressed with the work the club is making and believes Pogba’s signing would boost the team.

“We have something big going on,” Ibrahimovic told Swedish television station Kanal 5 .

“It looks very interesting.

“Let’s see if Pogba will also [come], then it will be even more interesting.”

Ibrahimovic scored his first United goal just four minutes into his debut in Saturday’s 5-2 friendly win over Galatasaray in Gothenburg.

The Swede netted an acrobatic effort and said he was delighted to get his first goal on home soil.

“It felt good. Very good. The first half was so-so but the second was good,” the 34-year-old said.

“It was my first game and right now it’s important to build up my physique and stamina.

“[Scoring on Swedish soil] felt even better. It was fantastic. We had great support and this is my country. I can’t fail in my country.”

Retired Teachers Commend Lagos Gov Ambode For Raising Standard Of Education

Some educationists on Friday commended the Lagos State Government for efforts put in place in raising the standard of education.

The educationists said in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the present administration is investing heavily on education.

A retired teacher, Mrs Mopelola Ogunwale, said that the state government had put in place so much to ensure effective teaching and learning.

According to her, the challenge has been the inability of parents to complement government’s efforts by providing the necessary writing materials.

“Government has provided textbooks for the pupils but because of some parents’ non-chalant attitude, some children are still lacking basic things like writing materials,’’ she said.

She, therefore, urged parents to wake up to their responsibilities by catering for their children and wards.

Ogunwale also appealed to the state government to fill vacancies created by retired teachers.

Also speaking to NAN, a retired teacher, Mr Adewale Akindunjoye, commended the state government for providing a conducive environment for learning.

Akindunjoye urged students to take advantage of the nice environment to strive toward academic excellence.

Another retired teacher, Mrs Veronica Azu, told NAN that in her 35 years of teaching, things had not been smooth, until recently.

“Things had gone bad at a point in time in the education sector but government is putting them right now.

“I have seen the ugly and the bright side of education but things have picked up and getting better with this administration,’’ she told NAN.

Azu advised the government not to relent in its efforts by recruiting more teachers to fill vacancies created by retired teachers.

Meanwhile, Mr Olufemi Adedeji, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mainland branch, said that the only way to tackle the problem of shortage of teachers “is through constant recruitment’’.

Adedeji, while commending the state government, lamented that primary schools in the state were under-staffed.

He advised retired teachers to engage themselves in other productive ventures since monthly stipend they were used to, would no longer come.

Pep Guardiola To Sign These Two World Class Players For £92m!

Pep Guardiola has confirmed the double pursuit of Leroy Sane (Schalke) and John Stones (Everton), with reports claiming that Manchester City will pay £92m for the pair.

Guardiola spoke to reporters on Thursday following Manchester City’s penalty shoot-out victory over Borussia Dortmund in the International Champions Cup in China.

The ex-Bayern Munich manager said that he would be ‘very happy’ if Sane completes a move to City, which would be worth around £42m according to reports.

Sane, 20, is a highly-rated forward with the ability to play on the wing, as well as in an advanced midfield role.

John Stones on the other hand, who turned 22 in May, has been tipped to join City for a staggering £50m fee.
